Autism Therapy and Support for Children
Every autistic child is different. Some talk early and love facts, others communicate in other ways. What helps is support built around your child, not a one-size programme.
At Trijog, speech therapists, occupational therapists and child psychologists work together, so your child gets one joined-up plan for communication, sensory needs, behaviour and social skills. Formal diagnosis is made by a qualified specialist, and we can guide you on that step.
- One team, one joined-up plan
- In person at our Mumbai centres
- Parents guided at every step
What We Help With
Pick what feels closest to what you are seeing. Not sure which one? That is fine, we can work it out in the first conversation.
Communication
Building ways to understand and be understood.
Some autistic children have few words, some use words in unusual ways, and some talk a lot but find conversation hard. All of them benefit from being understood.
- Few words or late talking
- Repeating words or phrases
- Difficulty with back-and-forth conversation
- Communicating needs through behaviour
Speech and language therapy builds communication in whatever form works for your child, including pictures and gestures alongside words.
Sensory needs
Strong responses to sound, touch, light or movement.
Many autistic children find everyday sensations overwhelming, or seek out intense sensory input. This can affect sleep, eating, dressing and going out.
- Distress at loud noises or crowds
- Very selective about food or clothing textures
- Seeking movement, pressure or spinning
- Difficulty with haircuts or brushing teeth
Occupational therapy helps map your child’s sensory needs and builds a plan to help them stay calm and comfortable.
Social interaction and play
Finding their way with other people.
Your child may prefer to play alone, play in very specific ways, or want friends but find it hard to join in. Social understanding can be taught gently, at your child’s pace.
- Preferring to play alone
- Difficulty with pretend play
- Finding turn-taking hard
- Wanting friends but not knowing how
Therapy uses play to build shared attention, turn-taking and social understanding, respecting your child’s way of being.
Routines and change
Needing sameness, and struggling with transitions.
Changes in routine, a new route to school, or an unexpected visitor can lead to great distress. Predictability helps many autistic children feel safe.
- Distress when routines change
- Strong preferences for particular orders
- Difficulty moving between activities
- Intense focus on specific interests
Visual schedules, warnings before transitions and gradual practice with change help your child cope with the unexpected.
Behaviour and meltdowns
Understanding what overwhelm looks like.
Meltdowns are usually a response to overwhelm rather than defiance. Understanding the triggers helps prevent them and makes them easier to manage.
- Meltdowns in busy or loud places
- Self-injury such as head-banging when upset
- Difficulty calming down
- Shutting down or withdrawing
Your therapist helps identify triggers and early signs, and plans calming strategies and safer ways to communicate distress.
Daily living and independence
Building skills for everyday life.
Dressing, eating, toileting and self-care may take longer to learn. Small steps, practised consistently, build independence over time.
- Needing help with dressing or eating
- Toileting difficulties
- Very limited diet
- Difficulty with self-care routines
Tasks are broken into small, visual steps and practised in sessions and at home until your child can do more for themselves.

What A First Session Is Like
The first meeting is relaxed and play-based, in a room set up to feel calm. Our team will watch how your child plays, communicates and responds to the space, and ask you about their development and daily life. You will leave with a clearer picture and first steps.
Child Psychologists And Therapists
For assessment, therapy and practical guidance, in person or online.
A Specialist, If Needed
We can connect you with a paediatrician or psychiatrist when a medical opinion is worth having.
Parents, Always
You are part of the plan, with guidance on what to do at home.
For parents and families
Learning to see the world from your child’s side makes a real difference. A few things help.
- Use visual schedules and give warnings before changes.
- Notice what overwhelms your child, and plan quieter options.
- Follow your child's interests as a way into play and talking.
- Find support for yourself too. You do not have to do this alone.
If a child needs help right now
- If a child talks about wanting to die, harm themselves or not wanting to be here, or you believe they are in danger, call 112 or go to the nearest hospital emergency.
- For free mental health support at any time, for you or your child, call the government's Tele-MANAS helpline on 14416 or 1-800 891 4416.
- Trijog is not an emergency service. Our sessions are by appointment, in person in Mumbai or online.
If any of these is happening, please do not wait for an appointment. Call 112 or go to the nearest hospital emergency. Tele-MANAS is free and open any time on 14416 or 1-800 891 4416.
