Couples Therapy in Mumbai: Relationship and Marital Support

The same fight, in a loop. Long silences. A decision neither of you can say out loud. Couples counselling gives the two of you a calmer room and someone neutral in it. Couples therapy in Mumbai or online can work with both of you together, or with one partner alone.

This is for married, living-in and dating couples, and for anyone thinking it through alone first. Trijog’s psychologists and counsellors meet you together or one-to-one, in person in Mumbai or online. You do not both have to be ready. One of you can start.

Urgent

Your safety comes first. Call 112 in an emergency, or the National Commission for Women helpline on 7827170170. Couples therapy is not the right first step when there is abuse.

What We Help With

Pick what feels closest to your situation. Not sure which one? That is fine, we can work it out in the first conversation.

Marriage and long-term relationships

For couples who are years in and no longer sure how to reach each other.

Years in, a relationship can go quiet. You manage the house, the money and the children well, and barely talk otherwise. Sessions look at how the two of you actually spend time together, and at what changed.

Naming what changed, rebuilding everyday connection, and working out together what you both want this to look like.

Constant fighting and communication

The same argument, on repeat, however it starts.

Most couples fight about a handful of things, again and again. What matters is how a fight opens and whether either of you can cool it down. Sessions slow the pattern and look closely at the first few minutes.

Seeing your own pattern, softer openings, a real break when it gets heated, and repair afterwards.

Trust, affairs and rebuilding

After a betrayal, when you are both still deciding what happens next.

An affair, hidden money, a hidden phone. Trust breaks in different ways and the hurt is real. Sessions make room for the injury first, then for honest talk about what each of you needs now.

Working through the hurt without rushing it, honesty at a pace you can both hold, and a clear look at what rebuilding would take.

Closeness and intimacy

When affection, touch or sex has become hard to talk about.

Desire shifts with stress, sleep, health, medicines, a new baby and age. When it becomes hard to raise, the distance grows quietly. Sessions turn it into an ordinary conversation, at whatever pace suits you both.

Talking about desire and touch without blame, and checking whether health, pain or medicines are part of it, with a doctor if needed.

Separation, divorce and co-parenting

For couples deciding, parting, or trying to parent well after.

Some couples come to decide, some have already decided. Either way the practical and emotional load is heavy, and children feel the temperature at home. Sessions hold both parts without pushing you in either direction.

Thinking it through without pressure, lowering the conflict children see, and steady arrangements for them if you do part.

Before marriage: expectations, families and in-laws

Talk it through before the wedding, not after the first year.

Money, work, where you will live, children, religion, how much say each family gets. These often go unsaid until they turn into a fight. Premarital sessions put the awkward questions on the table while it is still easy to talk.

Structured conversations about money, living arrangements, family roles and children, plus how the two of you handle a disagreement.

Also Here For You

People often come to us for these too:

Living with in-laws

Shared kitchen, shared decisions, very little privacy. We look at boundaries that are realistic for your actual home, not an imported version of it.

Parenting disagreements

One strict, one soft, and the children learning who to ask. Sessions help you agree a line the two of you can both hold in front of them.

Distance, travel and two cities

Different cities, shifts that never match, or a marriage held together over video calls. The strain is real and it is workable.

Why This Kind Of Support Helps

The relationship is what we work on

Neither of you is the problem to be fixed. The work is on the pattern between you, so nobody leaves the room as the accused.

Family is part of the picture here

In Indian homes a marriage rarely stands on its own. Parents, in-laws, money and what people will say are usually in the room too, so we work with that rather than around it.

Two in the room is a different skill

Couple work is not individual counselling with an extra chair. It needs a therapist who can hold both sides and stay out of the fight.

No Crisis Needed

You can come while things still feel small, or hard to put into words.

How It Works

1

Reach out

Book online or call. Say briefly what is going on, and whether you want to come together or on your own.
2

First session

Your therapist listens to both of you, and usually also spends a short while with each of you separately.
3

Agree what you are working on

You set the goals together, and working out whether to continue the relationship is allowed to be one of them.
4

Review as you go

You check what is shifting and what is not, and adjust. If one of you would benefit from individual sessions, those can run alongside.

What A First Session Is Like

Mostly listening. Your therapist asks what brought you in now, what a bad week looks like, and what a good one looks like. Each of you gets some time alone in the room, which is routine and helps your therapist check that joint sessions are the right and safe step. Nobody is asked to decide anything that day.

Psychologists And Counsellors

For talking therapy, one to one, in person or online.

A Psychiatrist, If Needed

For a medical opinion when medicine is worth discussing.

Family, If You Want

Joint sessions with the people close to you, only if you choose.

If your partner will not come

Plenty of people start alone, and that is a real option rather than second best. One person changing how they respond can change the pattern at home.

Urgent

If you need help right now

If any of these is happening, please do not wait for an appointment. Call 112 or go to the nearest hospital emergency. Tele-MANAS is free and open any time on 14416 or 1-800 891 4416.

Try A Free Self-Check

Not sure if this is a rough patch or something more? A short mood and stress check takes a few minutes. It is free, it is not a diagnosis, and you can share the result with your therapist.

Frequently Asked Questions

Fees depend on the therapist and the type of session, and a couple session may be priced differently from an individual one. Ask the team when you book, so there is nothing unexpected later.

What you share stays between you and your therapist. In couple work your therapist will tell you at the start how they handle something one of you says alone. There are a few exceptions, such as when someone’s safety is at serious risk or the law requires it.

You talk, your therapist listens and notices the pattern between you, and then the two of you practise doing it differently. Much of the change happens in the ordinary week between sessions, not in the room.

Either. Many people start alone. If you both come, your therapist will usually also meet each of you on your own for part of the first session.

Tell the team which language you are most comfortable in when you book, and they will match you with a therapist who speaks it.

Say so. You can ask to change therapists, or to stop. A poor fit is common, it is not a failure, and nobody will ask you to justify it.
