Mental Health Training for Managers

Managers are often the first to notice when someone is struggling, and the last to know what to do about it. Training gives them the confidence to have the conversation, and the judgement to know when to refer.

Trijog trains people leaders in organisations across India, as part of our learning and development and coaching programmes.

The short answer

Mental health training for managers teaches them to recognise early signs of distress, start supportive conversations, respond appropriately without acting as a therapist, and refer employees to the EAP or professional help. It also covers how managers’ own behaviour, workload decisions and team culture affect wellbeing.

Why managers matter so much

Employees’ experience of work is shaped heavily by their direct manager. A manager who notices, asks and listens can make it much easier for someone to seek help early. A manager who dismisses or pressures can make things worse.

Beyond a single session

Training works best when followed up with practice, refreshers and access to coaching. We also offer leadership and transition coaching for managers taking on bigger teams.

A simple way to start the conversation

01

Notice: a change in mood, energy, work or behaviour

02

Ask: privately and plainly, “You have not seemed yourself lately. How are you doing?”

03

Listen: without rushing to fix or judge

04

Support: ask what would help, and adjust work where you can

05

Refer: point them to the EAP or professional help, and follow up

Looking after managers too

Managers carry their own pressures, and supporting a struggling team member can be draining. Good training includes how managers can protect their own wellbeing and where they can go for support themselves.
