Choosing an EAP Provider in India: A Buyer's Guide

An Employee Assistance Program (EAP) gives employees confidential access to counselling and support. Choosing one is a significant decision, and the differences between providers matter more than brochures suggest.

This guide sets out what a good EAP in India should include, the questions to ask any provider, and how to judge whether it is working. Trijog has run EAPs and wellbeing programmes for more than 550 corporations and government bodies since 2015.

The short answer

When choosing an EAP provider in India, look for qualified and registered counsellors, strict confidentiality, multiple ways to access support (phone, video and in person), regional language and cultural fit, clear crisis protocols, manager training, a launch and awareness plan, and anonymised utilisation reporting. Ask how counsellors are qualified, how confidentiality is protected and how the provider drives usage.

What a good EAP should include

01

Confidential one-to-one counselling with qualified professionals

02

Access by phone, video and, where possible, in person

03

A clear protocol for emergencies and risk

04

Support for family members, if your policy allows

05

Manager training so leaders know how to refer people

06

Workshops and awareness sessions to reduce stigma

07

Anonymised reports on usage and themes for HR

Questions to ask any provider

01

How are your counsellors trained, registered and supervised?

02

How do you protect employee confidentiality from the employer?

03

What happens when an employee is at risk?

04

How do you help employees actually use the service?

05

What will HR see in reports, and what will it never see?

06

Can you support employees across all our locations?

Measuring whether it works

Utilisation is the starting point, but it is not the whole story. A low number often means employees do not know about the EAP or do not trust it to be confidential. Look at how awareness is built, whether managers refer people, and whether employees come back for follow-up sessions.

Good providers share anonymised themes, such as rising work stress in one function, so you can act on the causes and not just the symptoms.

How Trijog approaches EAP

Trijog’s EAP combines one-to-one consultations with a digital platform, a launch and rollout plan, manager training and learning sessions. It is designed with Indian workplaces in mind, from offices to field teams.
